As we learned a short while ago, E3 is returning in 2021 but in purely digital form. Despite rumors to the contrary, it will be free to tune into and run from June 12th through June 15th.
This morning, it was reported that several major publishers have backed the event and will be featured. Those publishers so far include Xbox, Ubisoft, Capcom, Konami, Take-Two, Warner Brothers, and Koch Media. Whether or not more publishers will sign on is TBD. ESA CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis offered the following statement:
“For more than two decades, E3 has been the premier venue to showcase the best that the video game industry has to offer, while uniting the world through games. We are evolving this year’s E3 into a more inclusive event, but will still look to excite the fans with major reveals and insider opportunities that make this event the indispensable center stage for video games.”
Our nostalgia is strong for E3 like many fans of the industry. Though we’re unsure if the E3 model will continue into the future, we hope it does in some form as there is a sense of magic to it that we missed last year.
