Bloober Team, Developers of The Medium, Working on Horror IP with “Major Publisher”

Bloober Team has developed a reputation for developing psychological horror games from Layers of Fear, to Blair Witch, and most recently, The Medium. So what’s next for the Polish studio? According to Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno, another horror IP in collaboration with a “major publisher” that will surprise people.

Speaking with our friends at Gamesindustry.biz, Babieno provided the following insight:

“[Psychological horror] is still in our DNA,”…”We still would like to have this taste of making games, but we would like to tell our stories more with action. That’s why our future projects will be more from the first-person perspective, like The Medium. We’ll have much more advanced game mechanics.”

Babieno then touched on what the studio is currently working on:

“In fact, we’ve been working for more than a year on another gaming project, another horror IP, and we’re doing this with a very famous gaming publisher. I can’t tell you who. I can’t tell you what the project is, but I’m pretty sure when people realize we’re working on it, they will be very excited.”

Babieno also took time to talk about the benefits of Xbox Game Pass:

“I think if you’re creating a completely new IP like with The Medium, systems like Game Pass are really useful because gamers will learn about your brand very fast,”…”It’s very important for a game developer to show their game to as broad an audience as possible,” Babieno says. “So I would say Game Pass is helping us, and in the future we’ll perhaps try to do some of that with Microsoft again.”

Our Take

If you’ve read our reviews of The Medium or Blair Witch, you’ll know we are big fans of Bloober Team’s work. Thus, we love hearing that they will continue to refine their approach to psychological horror while expanding their boundaries. We can’t wait to see what they deliver next.
