Xbox Updates Series X Ecosystem Details Including xCloud and Hellblade 2 on Unreal Engine 5

The jockeying between Xbox and PlayStation is kicking into gear and you can expect a full out assault over the next few months in the battle for mind-share.

Today, Xbox updated the main Series X page with additional details on the Series X, the ecosystem, and what players can expect by being “at the center” of their methodology. In addition to technical details, Hellblade 2 was specifically called out as being developed using Unreal Engine 5.

The power of Xbox Series X was first demonstrated with the unveiling of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.  The team will be building the game on Unreal 5 and leveraging the power of Xbox Series X to bring the Hellblade franchise to levels never before seen. The footage shown was captured in-engine and reflects the power of Xbox Series X available to developers to deliver new universes, experiences and games in ways you have never imagined.

Also there’s an interesting note on xCloud that was added. We’ve talked regularly about how the Xbox ecosystem connectivity will function, including on last week’s Bitcast, and it’s clear that Xbox is moving there as we figured where xCloud is another feature offering to consumers and ties to Game Pass.

With Project xCloud, we’re not just building the most powerful and compatible console, we’re building the fastest, most powerful, and most compatible gaming cloud as well. When it launches later this year, Project xCloud will empower Xbox Game Pass members to play with their friends anywhere, no download required.

We’ve written several times about how this works and our experiences with it which we encourage you to read.

Our Take

The direction Xbox is moving with its ecosystem is impressive. The Series X is an extremely capable console that will move games forward while every other decision, from Game Pass, to Backwards Compatibility, to xCloud, benefit the player. We applaud Xbox leadership for the direction and can’t wait for next-generation to begin!
