While we were notified yesterday, we were waiting for the ESA’s official announcement before posting. That came this morning. Per the ESA:
“After careful consultation with our member companies regarding the health and safety of everyone in our industry–our fans, our employees, our exhibitors and our longtime E3 partners–we have made the difficult decision to cancel E3 2020, scheduled for June 9-11 in Los Angeles,” the ESA said in a statement.
“Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our fans and supporters. But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today.”
The ESA also stated that they are coordinating on possible digital presentation plans to still have an E3 experience in June. Those details will be coming in the future.
With the above in mind, we have also cancelled our plans. It is quite disappointing as we had a lot in store for this year. If you’ve followed SG, we’ve ramped up our coverage over the past two years and had even more planned this year including a collaboration with other notable gaming sites, booth awards, video presentations, and a lot more.
Knowing that the show will go on in a digital form, we are assessing how to best share the experience with everyone. We will be working on this in the coming months and will keep you updated. In the meantime, let’s enjoy the amazing games that are launching over the next several weeks!
