Contrary to both rumors and the hopes of many, including us, Nintendo has confirmed that they will not be releasing a new Switch model in 2020. President Shuntaro Furukawa stated “We have no plans to launch a new Nintendo Switch model in 2020” during a briefing in Tokyo.
But Furukawa said the Switch’s life cycles and customer bases were different from rival consoles. “Other companies’ business moves will not have a special impact on our business” he said.
Our Take
We were some of the many hoping for a Switch “Pro” in 2020 but alas, we’ll have to continue holding out hope. Regardless, we still have the PS5 and Xbox to look forward to as well as a wealth of AAA titles. Maybe we’ll see a new Switch in 2021?
