With 2020 beginning to get into swing, the biggest topic on everyone’s mind at the moment is “When is Sony going to finally reveal the PS5?”. While Microsoft and the Xbox teams have been aggressive in revealing the Series X and speaking about their plans as the industry shifts to next-generation, Sony has been nearly silent save for the logo reveal at CES.
Given the history of reveals and some of the comments we’ve heard from our friends around the industry, it’s starting to look as though we can expect a full reveal event in February. We’ve discussed previously that the PS4 reveal event was held in February and obviously given the success of the PS4, it worked well for Sony.
As we learned today, some of the lead PlayStation executives are meeting in San Francisco including the new Head of Worldwide Studios Hermen Hulst and Ex-President (and now Head of Indie Development) Shuhei Yoshida (along with well known PlayStation industry insiders Greg Miller and Andrew Goldfarb). From what we’ve learned from a few sources, though we certainly won’t call it “confirmation”, this is all in alignment for the final stages of planning for the event.

Our Take
It certainly would make sense for Sony to reveal the PS5 in February to begin to build momentum in the ramp up to Summer. As we discussed on this week’s Bitcast, there’s rumors that Sony may skip E3 again. But no matter what, we have to believe Sony has big plans to build the hype for the PS5 as we approach launch this Holiday. And we couldn’t be more excited!
