Modern Warfare Developer Responds to Exclusivity Backlash

MPIt seems Infinity Ward knew the backlash over the Spec Ops mode wouldn’t go over so well and is now beginning to respond to fan criticism.

In case you missed it, it was confirmed yesterday that the “Survival” setting within Modern Warfare’s Spec Ops mode would be exclusive to the PS4 for one year until October 2020. Thus Xbox One and PC players will not be able to partake in the Horde-like mode until then (if it releases at all).

Infinity Ward first responded by saying it’s an incredibly small sliver of the overall game, but fans have continued to be very vocal about their disappointment with threads on the Call of Duty forums and Reddit being responded to by thousands of players. Now responding further, Studio Narrative Director has taken to Twitter to provide some insight.

“…I respect your decision. We do our BEST every day to give our players the best experience possible. There are decisions that are above all of our pay grades that have to be considered. I understand your feelings, but this is much better than others I have seen.

He continued:

“…Let’s be honest, “ruining” is an exaggeration. Survival is 1% of the game. The other 99% is simultaneous day and date across all platforms. I’d rather have everyone playing 99% of the content at the same time than 100% of the content some time later.”

Our Take

So what do you think? While disappointing, we believe this beats out having to wait on DLC or maps for 30 days especially as crossplay is now in place. We continue to hope that there will come a day in the industry where these deals no longer exist.
