Starbreeze Studios, publishers of Payday 2 and Overkill’s The Walking Dead, has filed for restructuring and fired CEO Bo Andersson. According to the official statement which you can find below, The Walking Dead under performed and the short term revenue forecasting has thus been reduced.
What this means for the future of the Payday franchise we’re unsure, but we don’t expect to see anything from Starbreeze for quite some time. You can find their formal statement here : Starbreeze files for bankruptcy
Our Take
This isn’t wholly surprising. While The Walking Dead is a major IP, the development of the title seemed to take far too long and launched very poorly. Sadly, as we’ve seen across the industry, large scale titles that don’t deliver the financial results don’t have a long rope. We simply hope that the developers involved are taken care of.
