Nintendo Switch Online : Launches in September, Includes NES Games

Nintendo has finally unveiled the Switch Online service that will launch on September 20th. The majority of the details we knew previously, but now we know exactly what will be offered. Here are the details:

  • Online play for specific games including Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, Mario Tennis Aces, and more.
  • NES games with online play for the first time. At launch, it will include 20 titles with more added over time.
  • Cloud saves for your Switch data.
  • Switch Online App
  • Special offers that are exclusive to members.

Prices will be $3.99 a month, $7.99 for 3 months, or $19.99 for 12 months. Additionally a family membership will be offered for $34.99 annually.

Our Take

We’ve been discussing how overdue a proper online service is for the Switch. While we still have concerns and reservations about what we’re seeing from Nintendo, we are excited for progress in this area. We’re especially fond of NES titles with online play and hope they eventually add SNES titles as well.
