Telltale Games, the company responsible for such hits as The Walking Dead, Wolf Among Us, Tales from the Borderlands, and more, announced today that they are laying off 25 percent of their staff in a corporate restructuring.

A statement from the company reads as follows :

“The decision is designed to make the company, a leader in player-driven narrative games, more competitive as a developer and publisher of groundbreaking story-driven gaming experiences with an emphasis on high quality in the years ahead,” a statement from the company reads.

The restructuring is not expected to affect games already announced or in development such as Wolf Among Us 2 or Walking Dead Season 3.

Our Take

We feel like we’ve been saying this too often lately, but this is sad news. While we applaud the effort of Telltale to focus on quality over quantity, it’s a shame that people had to lose their jobs over it. We hope the developers land with other positions quickly and we know companies such as Gearbox have already offered to review candidates looking for work. Good luck to all of those affected.
