PlayStation VR Surpasses 1 Million Units Sold / Breaking Bad “Experience” in Development

psvr

Sony announced today that PS VR sales had surpassed 1 million units.  While that is cause for celebration, especially as PS VR is selling better than Oculus and Vive, it also goes to show how big of a challenge VR adoption continues to be given the PS4’s near 60 million console install base as a whole.

In that vein, Sony Pictures announced today that they are working with Breaking Bad’s creator, Vince Gilligan, on a VR experience for the platform though they were careful not to call it a “game”.

Our Take

VR continues to be a slow burn for consumers and it will be interesting to see how this progresses over the next few years.  Sony themselves have said they are learning along the way and with Microsoft presumably entering the market in some form with Scorpio later this year and in 2018, we’ll have to see if demand increases, or if VR still isn’t ready for wide consumer acceptance.
